Welcome to the

D. R. A. G. E. N. Lab

St. Jerome's University's Medieval D.R.A.G.E.N. Laboratory was founded in 2016 with a mission to enhance the training of students, contribute to the field of environmental history, and explore the possibilities inherent in Digital Humanities.

This is a Digital Research and Graphic Environmental Networks Laboratory, which seeks to educate the next generation of researchers and to develop and extend the inherent interdisciplinarity of Medieval Studies at St. Jerome's and the University of Waterloo.

The D.R.A.G.E.N. Lab grows out of the Herstmonceux Project, and is, therefore, particularly concerned with how historical weather and natural environment affected everyday life at the end of the Middle Ages.

The Lab supports a network of undergraduate and (post)graduate students: historians, archivists, language and literature specialists, and environmentalists. Together, we seek to understand the past as we use modern approaches to illuminate current issues.
